The Rehabilitation Services Department of Stamford Hospital provides comprehensive rehabilitation services to improve functional abilities and quality of life for those in need, as a result of an illness or injury. The Rehabilitation Department's goal is to provide a quality care with equipment and programs designed to meet our community's needs in a caring, cost effective manner. Our goal is to maximize independence in self-care, to facilitate adjustment to disability and return to home, community and work, and to enable individuals to live at the highest degree of social and physical independence.

Adults with a diagnosis of Stroke, Neurologic disorders, Orthopedic surgeries, Polyarthritis, Fractures, Amputation, Pulmonary dysfunctions and some Spinal Cord Injuries and other medical diagnosis resulting in decreased physical function, are treated in the Rehabilitation Department.

Services provided include Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Speech Therapy, Rehabilitation Medicine and Nursing, Case Management, Psychology, Prosthetics and Orthotics, Social Work, Nutrition Services and Pastoral Care.

Each patient receives an initial assessment within 24 hours of admission by Rehabilitation Medicine and Nursing. Referrals are then made by the Physiatrist for the patient to receive PT, OT, Speech or Psychology. Re-assessment occurs weekly and includes each patient's response to treatment, functional progress and any significant changes in the patient's status.

Clinical Activities include Medical Care, Ambulation and Gait Training, Transfers, Bed and Wheelchair Mobility, Activities of Daily Living Training, Feeding and Swallowing training, Nutritional councelling, Upper and Lower Body Strengthening, Perceptual and and Cognitive evaluation and treatment, Home Evaluations, Home Management, Community Reentry, Nursing Care, Patient and Family Education, Evaluation and Treatment of Communication Problems, and Discharge Planning.

community, which is managed by Marriott
Senior Living Services. The continuing care
concept provides the assurance of a
continuum of service and care of life,
including lifetime use of a residential
apartment, residential suites with Assisted
Living Services and Nursing Care. The
community offers 207 spacious one- and
two-bedroom residential apartments, 20
Assisted Living suites and 60 Nursing Care
beds. Gracious amenities include two dining

The following physical medicine and rehab services are offered in the Tully Health Center on an outpatient basis: physiatry consults; physical therapy for injuries such as sports related, work related, musculoskeletal and soft tissue injuries and aquatic physical therapy in our warm water pool.

Tandet Center

The William and Sally Tandet Center for Continuing Care is a 130-bed skilled nursing and rehabilitation facility dedicated to providing active treatment and rehabilitation for individuals who have been disabled by an acute illness or are experiencing health problems associated with aging process.

The Tandet Center provides three coordinated treatment programs to meet individual goals and needs. These programs are:

Subacute Programs which are designed for patients who require specialized medical, nursing and therapeutic interventions but do not require the full services of an acute care hospital.

Alzheimer's/Dementia Program, which is intended to provide a safe, structured and therapeutic environment for individuals with Alzheimer's disease or dementia.

Long Term Care Program, which is for individuals who require skilled nursing and supportive services for an extended stay.

At Edgehill, our nursing staff works diligently to promote our Nursing Care residents' well-being and self-sufficiency by helping them rebuild lost capacities and regain strength and mobility. We offer appropriate exercise programs and provide on-site therapies, including speech, occupational and physical therapy. Residents can receive the help they need right at Edgehill - making recovery from an illness or accident that much easier.
